"You'll shoot your eye out!"

One of my favorite movies to watch around the holidays is, “A Christmas Story.” You might be wondering why I’m talking about the holidays when we’re in the middle of summer. Well, if you’ve ever seen the movie, you know that Ralphie wants a Red Ryder Air Rifle for Christmas and every adult he talks to, tells him, “You’ll shoot your eye out!” Over the last three years, I’ve noticed people have the same reaction when I tell them I do CrossFit. “But you’ll get hurt! CrossFit is dangerous!” is undoubtedly the first thing that pops out of 90% of everyone’s mouth. CrossFit itself isn’t inherently dangerous, but we’ve all heard horror stories of people being hospitalized with rhabdo, or breaking their back, or spending months rehabbing a torn muscle, the list goes on. Injuries, unfortunately, happen. With the rate at which CrossFit has grown, of course the prevalence of “CrossFit-related” injuries has gone up. More people are doing it. I used to get really defensive when people would bash on the way I choose to go about getting my workout in. Something I’ve come to realize over the last year, is that I can argue until I’m blue in the face, defend CrossFit with all I’ve got, but most of the time people are still going to walk away with their opinion in tact. And that’s all it is. An opinion. Does arguing about the dangers, or lack of dangers, in CrossFit do me any good? Do I know that CrossFit isn’t the big, bad wolf? That’s all that really matters. People have a right to choose their way to achieve fitness. For me, it’s CrossFit. For Joe Schmoe, it could be yoga. Just make sure you stay away from air rifles, you don’t want to shoot your eye out!

A. Handstand practice

B. Every 2 minutes for 14 minutes:
    3 sets of Bear Complex 
    (Deadlift - hang power clean - front squat - push press - back squat - push press)
   *use the first 3 sets to warm up, then use the same (heavy) weight across the final four intervals

C. 500m row
