This past weekend some of your fellow 818ers competed at the Winter NLI at CSU Dominguez Hills. The NLI is a small local competition with a few different divisions that creates CrossFit style competitions accessible to a wide range of abilities and strengths.
Yvette, Mike, Kelly, Javier, and Colin all signed up for the NLI a couple months ago and have been working hard to train and prepare; you may have seen them hitting some workout in the back of the gym during the evening classes or if you came in early on Sunday mornings and saw them wrapping up one of the Competition classes. That said, they trained hard and showed up to put their training on the line and I couldn't be more proud of them:
Mike finished 37th overall in the Men's Division II, including a 10th place finish in the 2 minutes max handstand push ups event with a score of 33!
Javier finished 55th overall in the Men's Division III, including an 8th place finish on the 2 minutes max front squats event with a score of 41 (at 95 lbs!)
Colin finished 77th overall in the Men's Division III, including a 27th place finish in the 2 minutes max front squats event with a score of 36!
Kelly finished 16th overall in the Women's Division III, including a 1st place finish in the 2 minutes max front squats event with a score of 56! 2nd place got 50, so she crushed everyone in that event!
Yvette finished 51st overall in the Women's Division III, including a PR on her handstand push ups by getting 9 in 2 minutes!
Competing can be really tough, and I'm very proud of how loose and relaxed everyone was as well as how much fun they all had. At the end of the day, this was a great chance to just go out there and perform to the best of their abilities and learn more about themselves.
Again, I'm incredibly proud of all of their performances and look forward to the next time we get a bunch of people competing! If you're interested in trying out the whole competition thing, let me know and we can chat about your options, the next steps to take, and how to get started.
