We've spent the last 5 weeks participating in The 2013 Open, starting with 13.1 (the burpees and snatches workout), then 13.2 (the push press, deadlift, box jump workout), then 13.3 (wall ball, double unders, and muscle ups), and most recently 13.4 (last week's clean and jerk and toes-to-bar couplet). This week is the end of the CrossFit Games Open, with the last event (13.5) to be announced today at 5PM and we'll be doing that last event tomorrow at the gym like usual, in heats with judges for everyone doing the workout.
The truth is that none of us have a realistic shot at making it to the Games, and very few people will even make it past The Open, but we're not competing just because we wanna win (that's definitely important), but mainly because competition makes us better. Competition puts us in an environment that brings out the best in us. It's why you do better working out with a group, it's why you do better when there's something on the line, and it's why we encourage all of you to participate in some sort of competition, whether it's in house (a challenge or development series) or out of the box (a local CF competition or the CrossFit Games Open).
In case you're wondering what 13.5 will be, we don't know yet, but Dave Castro, Director of the CrossFit Games, gave us this video as a hint.
