As we try to dial in our nutrition to meet the demands of intense training three to six times a week, we can find that we are overwhelmed by the different types of nutritional supplements that are available and recommended by various nutritional gurus. While I have experimented with different types of supplementation over the years, I currently stick with just a few of the basics: whey protein post workout, high quality fish oil, branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), and glucosamine/chondroitin.
The post workout window (roughly 15 minutes to an hour after your workout) represents your best opportunity to get needed macro-nutrients into your body. Since I am not a big fan of chewing solid food directly after a kick-ass WoD, I tend to use whey supplements to get the protein I need for muscle recovery and development. Fish oil is an extremely important supplement I take daily. Robb Wolf explains why here. Finally, glucosamine and chondrointin help make sure my joints stay healthy. That's why the only supplements you see in the gym are SFH's Recovery Whey protein (which includes the BCAAs and glucosamine/chondroitin) and high quality fish oil!
What are some supplements you take that help you live and perform at your highest level?
