I read a tongue-in-cheek blog post the other day about the problems caused by sitting for extended periods of time while at work. The author, Eric Cressey is a well known trainer in the collegiate and professional baseball communities and recently found himself driving from Massachusetts to Florida when he relocated his training facility. Cressey's post (link) is not the first one written on this topic, nor will it be the last. This one stuck with me though because I have been reading a lot about posture lately in an effort to deal with a nagging shoulder injury. It turns out I have pretty bad posture while sitting and this was a contributing factor my injury... So, I decided to change things up by stacking my monitor, keyboard and mouse on a couple of boxes and standing while I work. It's only been two days but I have already noticed that I am more prone to keeping good posture while on my feet when I otherwise would have been slouched over in my chair. Grab some boxes and give the standing desk a shot to see what you think!
