Ladies and gentlemen, Julie Berger:
Life has a silly habit of getting cloudy and overcomplicated. The month bosses at work suddenly expect you to move mountains always coincides with the period where your friends and family seem to have dire crisis they need you for. It is also the same month you happen to come down with a debilitating illness, get unexpected bills in the mail, and hell, why not add relationship troubles while we’re at it. It is in these moments, these Murphy’s Law tornados, that it seems nobody is there for you—that no matter how much time, energy, and effort you have put into friendships, there is no return on investment.
Once you’ve landed in this toxic combination of troubles, it can feel impossible to get to the 7 on the pH balance of life. You are too weak to make it to the gym, too consumed with hours of work to help friends and family in need, too sick to work enough to pay the bills, etc. etc.
So what do you do? People have a tendency to want what they can’t have, and to look for things in places they know they won’t get it. If there are coworkers who kill our spirit, we are always trying to please them. If there is a friend or family member that has always been harsh and judgmental, we are always trying to impress them. When someone takes our sparkle away, it is hard not to continue chasing him or her until we get it back.
Here is the good news! Your sparkle lives in you, and you should never let anyone take it away. Your sparkle is the foundation of your greatness, and it will radiate as far as you allow. When life gets tough start looking to the small things that give you joy, looking towards people and places and habits that would never threaten to dull your shine. Get yourself to the gym, rest and watch your favorite shows on Netflix, start a motivational book, and most importantly, surround yourself with quality friends and family while getting rid of all of the vampires that seem to suck the positivity out of life.
Along with endorphins and hot bods, CrossFit 818 also provides a great community full of caring, bright, stars. So lets all make a promise to remember that nobody can steal our sparkle! Embrace it, look deep within, and let anyone who challenges you hear you roar.
