That quote is a great way to describe how our workouts are designed. We regularly refer to completing workouts "as RX" or "as prescribed", which just means that they're completed as written. Our workouts are written to be very difficult to complete as written; they tend to require highly developed gymnastics or weightlifting skills as well as a large amount of work capacity in order to get them done quickly.
The beautiful thing about CrossFit is that even though the workout is written for high level athletes, they're designed to be scaled to everyone's individual level so that each person gets the right workout for them. Our coaches are exceptional at scaling movements to fit various people's needs and abilities, and after a few months of regularly attending class, you'll have a grasp of your own abilities and be able to scale workouts for yourself!
We write our program to be challenging for talented and well developed athletes, but just because you're not a well developed or experienced athlete doesn't mean those same movements in that same combination isn't right for you: it just means that we've gotta adjust the weights and organization of the workout around to specifically fit your needs, which we're happy to do to suit each and every one of your specific needs so you can get where you need to go. Remember: the movements are universal and shouldn't differ much from person to person, but the details can, should and will be customized to each and every one of you.
