My manager at lululemon gave everyone these watches that don't have any numbers and no hands, the face simply says. "Now." Kind of silly (also a good way for me to NEVER be on time), but it serves as a reminder to live in the moment and be present in everything you do, whatever you are doing, whoever you are with, and wherever you are. It's very easy for us to get caught up in thinking about the future, or harping on the past. The past isn't going to change, so really, what's the point in stressing about it? And future is for the most part uncertain. We can learn from the past to make our futures better, but that starts with what we do now.
The Open just finished. It should have given you all a good snap shot as to where you're at in terms of your fitness and what things could use some work. Wishing and hoping won't get you closer towards any goal. If double unders are something you want, you have to start practicing now. If muscle ups are something you want, start drilling the transition and build up your shoulder strength now. If you want to be better at pull ups, you guessed it, start practicing your kip and building a stronger pull now. You want to look like a lean, mean, fighting machine, start eating clean. Not tomorrow, not next week, not after the weekend, right now. It's really easy to fall in to the trap of thinking you have plenty of time to achieve a goal.
In terms of fitness goals, 1 year flies by. So if your goal is to go into next year's Open ready for whatever Dave Castro has to throw at all of us, start working on your weaknesses today. The movements you all saw this time around, will definitely be back next year and you may even see some tougher movements thrown in there too, like pistols. Especially now that the scaled division is an option, TDC (The Dave Castro) can put anything he wants into the mix. Let's not get caught unawares.
Maybe your goal is more aesthetic, say summer beach bod? Well summer is right around the corner but really, with the weather we've been having, it's basically here. If you want that summer beach bod, why put off taking the steps you need to to achieve those abs?? Memorial Day is 8 weeks away and the 4th of July about 13 weeks. Don't waste any time getting tan and jacked!
