Most of the time I'm posting, I'm reminding you about upcoming events and stuff going on at the gym and while I'll also be doing that at the end of this post, I wanted to take a minute to give you a little bit of my perspective on coaching, working, and generally being a part of the community we have here at CrossFit 818.
I think the truest, most important thing I can say is that I coach because I love to coach. The past couple weeks have been difficult for me for a multitude of reasons, but through my increased time at the gym both in and out of classes, I've seen more of the magic this place and the people in it have to offer. Watching you get your first pull up, or the look of excitement in your eyes when you feel the movement *click* during a clean, or seeing a group of exhausted runners double back to bring in their friends at the end of a 5k...all these moments are validations for the work I'm putting in to help develop you as individuals and as a community.
In each of you, I see a reflection of myself and my path. I see people who are struggling with the same problems that I've dealt with (destructive physical and mental habits and the growing pains associated with breaking free of those habits). At the same time, I see people who exhibit traits (presence of mind, passion, Zen-like calmness) that I want to develop in myself. I see a group of people who have chosen to progress mentally, psychologically, and emotionally through the fiery pain of physical development. I see a group of people who demand respect, not because they are entitled to it, but because they've earned it.
At the end of the day, my love of coaching is rooted in being able to teach people, in some way or another, that what may seem insurmountable now will someday be a distant speck in your rearview mirror, something you not only overcame, but something you learned from. I want to teach you that the things that seem most permanent and unchangeable are not, that you can wake up one morning and be exactly the person you need and want to be, and that it's not only okay to struggle, but it's necessary to struggle in order to grow. And hopefully, through teaching you, I can learn these lessons myself.
eliteEATS' "Dinner's On Us" Night
You may have seen those eliteEATS branded lunch boxes floating around the gym or you may have heard me talking to some members about how absolutely delicious the meals they provide are, but you're still wondering what it's all about. Well, on Wednesday February 13th, Stefan (owner of eliteEATS and friend of CF818) will be here during the evening providing free meals to our members after their workouts (I guess you could eat it before too, but why would you want to do that to yourself?!).
This way you can get a chance to chat with Stefan, learn more about how eliteEATS works and get a taste of greatness! He'll also be hosting a cooking class on March 17th, so keep your eyes out for more details on that later.
We've got our new pricing up and running (and a bunch of you have already taken advantage of this by re-signing), but here's a reminder of what it looks like:
3 Classes per week: $179/mo with a 12 month commitment or $199/mo with a 6 month commitment
Unlimited Classes: $219/mo with a 12 month commitment or $239/mo with a 6 month commitment
All memberships will still include a one-on-one nutrition meeting with one of your coaches, and Unlimited memberships will also include the Wreck Shop.
I'll still be sending out an email to each of you with details on how this compares with what you're currently paying, so keep your eyes open for that one.
Yoga is coming back to CrossFit 818! We're finalizing the details, but our new instructor is a friend of mine who's not only a great yoga instructor, but is also familiar with CrossFit and the needs of CrossFitters like you. Details are still being cemented, but we'll definitely be starting up in March (and possibly sooner!).
Group Intro Class
We're still running our Group Intro Class on Sunday afternoon at 1PM, and there are spots open. If you have any friends or family who would like to learn more about CrossFit, how CF818 works, and get a taste of what CrossFit is all about all in a small, controlled, and private environment, this is the perfect time and place. Just email me with their contact info and I'll reserve them a spot!
