The Weightlifting Development Series
We had our information meeting on the Weightlifting DS last night, and we're now taking sign ups. Here's all the general info you'll need:
When - Starts Monday April 1st, ends Saturday May 11th with a weightlifting meet. Sessions will be Mondays and Fridays at 7:30PM. You can attend one, the other, or both and still make great improvements in your lifts!
What - The idea is to spend time specifically working to improve your skills and numbers in the snatch and the clean and jerk. We'll begin by testing your max snatch and clean and jerk (which you're welcome to do during Wreck Shop on Saturday afternoon or during the first session on Monday April 1st). During each of the sessions, we'll be training as weightlifters: it will completely different from any other class we've had before in that there won't be any specific, guided instruction. You'll be given a program to follow along and we'll be actively correcting issues with your lifts as they come up.
The Finale - We feel that competition makes people improve faster, so there's a competitive aspect to this development series. You'll start by finding your 1RM snatch and clean & jerk and we'll retest those lifts at the end of the challenge in a brand new format: a weightlifting meet. We'll explain the rules later on, but basically you'll be given 3 chances to max out your snatch and 3 chances to max your clean & jerk, going one at a time in front of the crowd, and being subject to official rules of the lifts (which just define what you can and cannot do to successfully make the lift, which we'll also explain later).
The most improved and heaviest men's and women's totals will be rewarded with prizes!
