I was skeptical of the whole class setting at CrossFit 818 when I joined. Prior to my first workout (Cindy!) I did everything alone. On the streets I ran alone with my earbuds in. At the gym I did curls in front of a mirror and quarter squats alone with my earbuds in. That first class wasn't exactly a group, if I remember correctly there were four people including myself. Still, I found the dynamic to be a little strange as I didn't know the people around me and I kept wondering why Z insisted I sit in the "the world's tiniest chair" (see squat reference above, lulz). I ended up making a bunch of new friends by participating in class. I looked forward to every workout because I got to have fun while accomplishing something. CrossFit became a form of group therapy for me, a place where I could be myself and blow off steam after a day at the office. One of the most valuable aspects of CrossFit is getting having a group of people who you can lean on, laugh with and compete against.
