In the next day or so Armen is going to announce the workout for our CrossFit 818 Fall Challenge. For those of you who are new to the 818 family this may be your first challenge. If you remember participating in the Jackie challenge in mid-2011 then you probably know what to expect in terms of training and preparation.
Competition lends context to the work we do day in and day out at the gym. It serves as a stage for us to showcase the very best that we have to offer. Most importantly, it gives us a chance to see just how much our commitment and tenacity pay off over the course of four or five weeks - you'd be surprised at how you can turn a weakness into a strength in such little time.
I learned as a kid that I had a passion for playing baseball. It is a fun game and through high school I was pretty good at it, but above all that the excitement for playing burned inside me like fire every time I set foot in between the chalk lines. Words don't really explain the feeling, but if you have competed in anything you know what it is that I'm talking about. My baseball career culminated at Angel Stadium in a championship game that we ended up losing but that is another story entirely.
I didn't have the tools to play collegiate ball (some dreams stay dreams) but I was able to find in CrossFit the same competitive nature that I found in the game of baseball. Over the last two years I have competed in several competitions at 818 as well as the 2012 NLI Summer Series and let me tell you that as soon as the clock starts ticking I get the same feeling that I did when I was at bat or tracking a fly ball in the outfield. Right after "3-2-1, go!" I know inside if what I feel is adrenaline or fear. Did I prepare adequately or did I slack off? I've done both. We all have and we all know that the former is far better than the latter.
So, pretty soon we are going to know what to expect for the CrossFit 818 Fall Challenge. The question is are you ready to get after it? Sound off in the comments about any competitions, CrossFit or others, that you have participated in!
