Happy February 818ers! Here's what you need to know for the shortest month of the year!
CrossFit 818 Ragnar Relay - The team is coming together but we still need a couple more participants to fill out the 12-person roster. If you're interested put your name on the whiteboard near the power platform. Keep an eye out for some informational emails if you're part of the relay team. In the coming weeks and months we will be sorting out some relay-specific training and logistics.
Also, if you want to participate in the Ragnar Relay but aren't sure about the whole running thing you can still get in on the action! Each relay team has a support crew that drives the route and assists the runners. We will post more details about this in the coming weeks, so keep a look out if you think you want to give the CF 818 team a helping hand!
CrossFit Open Registration - You've heard about it. You've thought about it. You just have to sign up for it! If you're relatively new to CF 818 here's what you need to know: The Open is an annual test that is designed to show you how your fitness stacks up against CrossFitters worldwide. The first of five workouts will be announced on Thursday, February 26, with the remaining four workouts being released over the course of the following month. If you haven't signed up already you can do so here, remember to join the CrossFit 818 team! If you still need more convincing, keep reading...
CrossFit 818 Friday Night Lights - What's cooler than The Open itself? The way we're going to be running the workouts this year, of course! You probably received an email last week about something called Friday Night Lights but if you missed it here is a recap:
In years past, we've put the Open workout into the regular class on a specific day each week and allowed anyone who wants to do it to come and get it done there. This year we'll be running what is commonly known as "Friday Night Lights": regular classes on Friday will end early during the Open and in the evening we'll be opening the gym up for a weekly mini competition.
We'll have heats you can sign up for, everyone participating will have judges, we'll have prizes at the end of the Open for top finishes in the workouts and overall, as well as prizes for the people who participate in every Friday Night Lights event. On top of that, we're working with sponsors to put together some free stuff for everyone participating in our Friday Night Lights events, so it's definitely going to be a good time for everyone.
These events will be open to whoever wants to come, so if you want to bring your friends or family to check it out and cheer you on, please feel free to do so! Remember that Friday Night Lights is just an extension of our regular fun workouts, a chance for you to flex your competitive spirits, and a good opportunity to hang out and workout with your fellow 818ers. It won't be the same without, so be sure to join up and keep your eyes open for more details.
