In chronological order, here are the upcoming things you should get really excited about through the end of the year. Let me know if you have any questions!
CrossFit 818 Good Times BBQ
What: Good times BBQ with you friends and family at CrossFit 818! Let's get together and hang out outside of the gym!
When: October 12, from 10AM-4PM
Where: Emerald Isle Park
Why: Because sometimes it's nice to see people out of workout clothes, and everyone loves to have fun right!?
How Much: It's free! Come by and have fun. We'll be providing the meat, and there's a sign up on the counter if you want to help bring snacks, drinks, or other stuff.
Extra Details: There will be only 1 class at the gym that day from 8:30AM - 9:30AM. The gym will be closed after the 8:30AM class is over and then the fun times begin!
The CrossFit 818 Fall Challenge
What: CrossFit is more than just exercise, it's about results and performance. That's where our Challenges fit in. On October 19th, we'll be testing a CrossFit benchmark workout then 6 weeks later on November 23rd we'll test that benchmark again and compare the performances.
There will be prizes for best men's and women's performance as well as prizes for the greatest amount of improvement from the baseline to the finals.
What's the workout? It's a classic and if you haven't done it you've probably heard of it.
We'll announce it next week :)
For now, sign ups are on the Announcements board near the back platform and they'll be open all the way until the end of day October 18th.
When: The Prelims are on October 19 from 9AM - 12PM. There will be no regular classes on October 19th as we will only be holding the Challenge Prelims on that day.
The Challenge Finals are on November 23 from 9AM - 12PM. There will be no regular classes on November 23rd as we will only be holding the Challenge Finals that day.
Where: At CrossFit 818, duh!
Why: Because you need context to your training. It's too easy to get caught up with how hard CrossFit is to see all the improvements you make on a regular basis, so this allows us to have something specific to train for as well as very clear proof and measurement of improvements.
Also, winners get membership prizes!
How Much: $50
Extra Details: All you've gotta do is sign up, attend the Prelim, show up to your regular classes, then hit the Finals as hard as possible!
The Next Level Invitational
What: A local competition that's open to all level of CrossFitter. A couple of your fellow 818ers, Javier and Megan, are competing at the next one and it would be awesome if you were to show up and support them!
When: October 26, 8AM - 5PMish
Why: Because it's great to support your friends and peers. Also, these local competitions are a lot of fun to attend and watch all levels of CrossFitters compete in a variety of workouts over the course of the day.
How Much: TBA

The Halloween Week Costume Competition
What: A costume competition! From October 28th to October 31st, wear a costume to class to work out in. After Halloween, we'll pick the best costume and the winner will get a prize!
When: October 28 - October 31
Where: Any class between Monday October 28th and Thursday October 31st
Why: Because dressing up is really fun, and everybody likes prizes.
How Much: Doesn't cost a thing! Just show up and work out in a costume and you're automatically in!
The CrossFit 818 Holiday Party
What: An annual party we have to celebrate the previous year and have a good time together outside of the gym.
When: Friday December 13th from 9PM until whenever!
Where: Our regular dive bar may have recently closed (#sadface), so I'm looking for a new place to host us. I'll keep you updated with more details as I get them.
Why: Seriously, you need a reason to hang out and have a good festive time with a bunch of sweet peeps from CrossFit 818?
