Earlier today, I had a conversation with one of our students about excuses. Truth is, there will always be something you can use as an excuse, something that you can use as a crutch. However, at the end of the day, it will only hold you back. There's a reason our shirts say "You can have results or excuses, not both."
Excuses are the tool of that small part of your psyche that just shoots down everything you try. Wanna use less help with the bands on your pull ups or go heavier on the lift during the workout? That little voice inside your head says "yea, but you went so hard last time...just go easy this time". Wanna get in for a workout at the end of a long day? The voice will tell you "you worked for 12 hours today, just relax, forget your schedule, and you'll make it up next time." That's a slippery slope, one you should never start to trek.
Once you start accepting excuses, it gets harder and harder to stop. Suddenly you're getting emails and phone calls from Chris or me and we're badgering you to stop with the excuses and get your butt into the gym!
Skip the excuse train and get on the results train. When that little voice starts talking you down, turning you away from your goals, take a deep breath and say this: "Back off, buddy. You've slowed me down, held me back, and stopped me from achieving my goals in the past. Now's my time to shine, so shut up and get on board." Want some inspiration here? Take a look at this.
