I’ve been a proud member of CrossFit 818 since opening day. When I look back on my experiences over the past couple years some of my happiest moments are the challenges. I wrestled in high school and competed in many Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournaments. I miss the competition aspect of sports. I suppose thats one of the reason I enjoy Crossfit so much.
The first challenge we did was the “Jackie” challenge; 1000 meter row, 50 thrusters and 30 pull-ups. It’s still one of my favorite workouts and it was just a few months into the opening of the gym. My initial time was around 11 minutes and I improved to a time of just over 8 minutes. I got 3rd place overall, which earned me a food scale and a free month membership.
The nervous energy that accompanies competition is something that is hard to reproduce in traditional gyms. It’s what builds community and makes you push yourself harder than you think you can. These challenges are a great way to get that feeling back. Sign up and enjoy the extra day a week to make friends and push yourself to a new level.
