I have been asked by several people over the past few weeks what supplements I take. One of the only supplements I take regularly, without fail, is fish oil. Fish oils contain EPA and DHA, which are two essential acids that help reduce inflammation and have myriad other scientifically proven health benefits. Over the past year, I have researched and tried many different fish oils both in capsule and oil form, and about a year ago I came across Stronger, Faster, Healthier, a company that makes ultra-high quality fish oils that provide a high dose of EPA/DHA per serving, taste great, and won't break the bank!
I have invited my friend, fellow CrossFitter, and fish oil guru, Matt Aporta, to come speak to you next Tuesday evening, (May 10th) about the benefits of fish oil and answer any questions you might have regarding daily recommend dosage, the difference between capsules and oil, and (most importantly) how they make their fish oils taste so freaking good! We'll also be offering samples of their products and an opportunity to place an order. Look for more information coming soon in your email inbox!

As we try to dial in our nutrition to meet the demands of intense training four to six times a week, we can find that we are overwhelmed by the different types of nutritional supplements that are available and recommended by various nutritional gurus. While I have experimented with different types of supplementation over the years, I currently stick with just a few of the basics: whey protein post workout, high quality fish oil, and glucosamine/chondrointin.
The post workout window (roughly 15 minutes to an hour after your workout) represents your best opportunity to get needed macro-nutrients into your body. Since I am not a big fan of chewing solid food directly after a kick-ass WoD, I tend to use whey supplements to get the protein I need for muscle recovery and development. Fish oil is an extremely important supplement I take daily. Robb Wolf explains why here. Finally, glucosamine and chondrointin help make sure my joints stay healthy given the high impact CrossFit can have on them.
What are some supplements you take that help you live and perform at your highest level?
