We've talked about the importance of learning and playing new sports in your development as an athlete. While for a rare few, CrossFit is the sport, most of you CrossFit in order to make fitness an everyday part of your life. That integration into your daily lives has a profound carry over effect at home, on your work, and in your play!
As a CrossFitter, you've paved the way to learning new sports by improving your fitness across all 10 Components of Fitness: Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Balance, Agility, and Accuracy. By being in the best shape of your life, you make the learning curve softer and are able to be competitive faster. We encourage you to try new things and find as many applications for your fitness as possible!

Yesterday, I was walking to my car after picking up some groceries and I saw something that was irresistible to me: a long curb. I immediately hopped up on it and tried to run across it while maintaining my balance and a hold on my groceries. Yes, I got a few sideways glances (it isn't everyday you see 6'2", 210lb guy running along a curb like a little kid), but the satisfaction I got from making it across about 25 feet of a six inch wide curb was worth it! My little jaunt across that raised curb in the parking lot incorporated some degree of balance, agility, coordination, and accuracy, four of CrossFit's 10 Components of Fitness. The other six are endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, and speed. Together, these 10 Components of Fitness are what every person should try to incorporate into their lives on a daily basis. Beware though: improving yourself across these 10 components usually requires you to move out of your comfort zone. Try playing new, different sports... or even better yet, come try a CrossFit workout!
