Four months ago, I wrote this post. Every now and then I like to revisit some of my favorite quotes in order to remind myself of important things I may have forgotten at some point. Here's a reminder about the importance of being versatile and adaptive.
"Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend."
Bruce Lee is amazing. Although we all know him as an untouchable martial artist, he was also a philosopher, thinker, and student of humanity. Here he brings up an interesting point about human versatility, power, and the ability to adapt.
The way I see it, his point is that we shouldn't allow ourselves to be constricted by what we're told we can do or by what we think we can do. Instead, be like water: don't think about what is expected of you or about what you expect of yourself. Function only as the current task requires, but have the mindfulness to shift strategies as necessary.
Be water, my friends.
