On Thursday I'll be taking a trip of a lifetime. My mom and I will be traveling to Chile and from there to Antarctica, all to run two half marathons (one in Chile and one in Antarctica).
Sound crazy? Hell yes. Sound fun? Hell yes.
Getting my passport stamped in Antarctica is pretty wild as is, running 13.1 miles on the continent to do it is even wilder. The most common question I'm asked about this is "aren't you worried? you haven't been training!"
My answer is "No, I'm not worried" and "yes I have been training". I haven't been training to run a half marathon (or two in two days) specifically, but I have been training. I've been doing thrusters, pull ups, burpees, snatches, box jumps, toes to bar...I've been running, sprinting, jumping, lifting, rowing. In short, I've been training to be physically and mentally prepared for a broad and varied set of possible tasks; I've been CrossFitting.
Thanks to CrossFit, I'm ready to do something like fly across the planet to run two half marathons on the edge of the world. Thanks to my fitness, I'm ready to take advantage of an opportunity that many people would be too scared to jump on or lack the confidence in their abilities to make it happen.
Use your fitness, be confident, try new things, take advantage of the opportunities you're given!
